About Jennifer

Jen Merritt is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who brings a unique and deeply compassionate perspective to her work at Mobile Counseling of New York. With over 25 years of experience in nursing before transitioning to mental health counseling, Jen understands that true healing requires addressing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Keuka College in 2025, building on her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the same institution in 2024. Her dual background in healthcare and clinical therapy allows her to offer holistic, trauma-informed care that honors both the medical and emotional aspects of her clients' experiences. Jen specializes in working with children, teens, young adults, adults, and veterans navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and bereavement, life transitions, addiction and recovery, and relationship challenges.

Jen's therapeutic approach is grounded in collaboration and empowerment. She believes that clients are the experts on their own lives, and her role is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing and growth can unfold. Drawing from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Informed Care, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy, Jen tailors her work to meet each individual's unique needs. Her personal journey through major life challenges and profound loss has given her a profound understanding of emotional pain, and she is honored to serve as a skilled, empathetic guide for those facing their hardest transitions. What she finds most rewarding is witnessing the incredible resilience of the human spirit—watching clients move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling grounded, empowered, and at peace.

Outside the therapy room, Jen is a proud wife and mother of five in a blended family of seven. She fuels her own well-being through a balance of creativity and adventure, whether she's crafting at home, exploring the outdoors on camping trips, hitting the trails on her ATV and UTV, or finding peace by the ocean. Her lively household is shared with four cats and three chinchillas, and she cherishes winding down each day with her beloved cat Benny. A fun fact: Jen holds dual citizenship with both the United States and Canada, reflecting the rich, multifaceted life she brings to her work and her relationships.
